• iPod Fix

iPod acting funny? A lot of people have gone berserk for a time because their iPods are not working properly and often they call customer support but do not get the answers they need. Just how does one fix an iPod when it is acting funny?

Erasing your iPod’s content means you will no longer have all of your files in there so you would need to save them elsewhere first.

You would have to format your iPod first and then after erasing it, you would have to restore it. To do this you should plug your iPod to your computer’s USB port then open iTunes.  Experts say that you should make sure that you are using the latest version of Apple’s iTunes to ensure that the updates are well –updated. Once you are connected, you will get a prompt that you need to install the necessary software to get your device up and running again.  Bottom line is, you should click restore to restore your iPod.

Will this solve your iPod problem? It probably will but there are iPod users who are annoyed with their iPods because even if they have done the erase move, their iPods do not work still. What should one do then? If you have formatted your iPod already or reformatted it for that matter, and it still is acting up, you should definitely call Apple asap.

Apple devices usually have a number of problems although these issues are usually subdued due to these products’ popularity.  If you think your iPod is no longer working, it may be time to buy a new one. Such a device is quite expensive though that’s why it is more practical to fix the one that you have instead of just disposing of it. If you let Apple fix it however, you will still be paying expensive fees so if the restore fix does not work, you may want to try it again.

  • If Linda Blair Owned an iPod…

This was pulled off of GRS’ Repair of the week blog. Apparently, this is the iPod equivalent of a spinning head. Is it time to exercise the Apple demons?

Luckily, GRS is really good at what they do and repaired the LCD screen without any trouble and the crisis was averted. It just goes to show you, if you plan to buy your iPod from a witch doctor in the middle of the woods, make sure you have GRS on the speed dial.

  • Saving an iPod Touch with common household items

Some home remedies for various iPod accidents.

    Wet iPod
If you decide you want to go swimming with your iPod Touch or you run it through the washing machine, try drying the device in a bag of rice. The rice is a natural dessiccant will pull the moisture out of the iPod and could possibly save its life.

This will work on any electronic device and if you are able to take the battery out of the device dry it seperately. If you haven’t already powered off the device do so and place it in a bowl or bag of rice and completely cover it in the rice for 24 hours. Do not try to charge the device. After a day or so the rice should have pulled all of the moisture out of the device. Power it on to see if it works again.

  • iPod Repair: DIY Rant

I have come across so many DIY iPod repair videos mostly on YouTube where a kid has found a way to repair his digitizer or replace his LCD screen and I think it’s really cool that we have the capability to find out how to do repairs ourselves. There are even DIY Kits being sold to repair your device yourself. Watching videos on YouTube or Expertvillage has allowed me to repair my own devices and even do things around my house or on my car. Before video sharing sites, we had to rely on manuals and other methods of gaining knowledge. Sometimes these were difficult to understand but when you are able to watch someone complete the task it really makes a difference. To anyone who has never done a repair on something they own, it really provides you with a sense of accomplishment.

I grew up with a dad who was big into DIY. I helped him with so many projects around the house (mostly just holding the flashlight) that I really saw the reward that you get when you finish the project. Sure you can pay someone to complete a project and sometimes that is neccessary because you may lack the skill, time, equipment, etc. but when you just do a little research and put in a little work, the reward is that much greater. That brings me to iPod repair. If you don’t really know what you are doing, send your device to someone who does. This is something that I would have a professional do if I didn’t know how to do it myself.

  • How Does it Work? iPhone, iPod Digitizer Technology

    iPod Technology: Accelerometer

Have you wondered how your iPod knows when you turn it on it’s side or how it can be used to play games with realistic movements?

Using a small piece of technology know as an accelerometer, the iPod touch can recognize the orientation at which it is being held at. The accelerometer uses three elements; An electrical current, silicon mass, silicon springs. The silicon springs measure the position of the silicon mass and cause a fluctuation in the electrical current. The springs do this by gauging where the electrical current is moving through the silicon mass. When the silicon moves, the current changes and the LCD screen receives a different signal. This variation then sends the electrical signal to the iPod telling it to adjust the game or whatever is on the screen. By simply flipping the device from a portrait to a landscape view, you can immediately see an entire web page, control a game using only your movements or view a photo in the proper aspect ratio.
