Is there any truth to the rumor of an iPhone to Verizon?

A regional VP with Verizon Wireless has stated to eWeek that the Verizon iPhone will happen by late 2010 or early 2011.

“Michael Maiorana, president of the Washington-Baltimore-Virginia region wouldn’t predict when a CDMA iPhone would emerge for use on the operator’s network because he didn’t want speculation to hurt sales of the Motorola Droid during the summer.” taken from FierceMobileIT.com
If this is really the case and VZW is not just pulling our legs, this would completely destroy all other wireless providers. It is known that the iPhone is one of the only reasons that AT&T is staying close with Verizon Wireless.  Verizon is known for fast, reliable service and AT&T is known for dropping calls and congested networks.  An iPhone to Verizon would mean that it would have to be CDMA capable iPhone but it has also been reported that Pegatron has been contacted to begin work on a CDMA capable iPhone which would make the phone available on the Verizon and T-Mobile networks.
So all Verizon Wireless customers who feel left out of the iPhone 4 pre-ordering fever can sit back and relax because they will be ordering their own iPhone someday soon.
